Libby Smithson

Libby describes herself as a road and track cyclist. This year she developed a love for cycling. Libby found it really hard at the start with numerous crashes in training due to a lack of skills causing her to nearly give up a few times, but she is so glad she didn’t.

I’m really excited to have been given the opportunity to race for Liv Awol next season and have their support as a new developing rider it was a big achievement for me to have them believe in me and take me on board to race with them.

After discovering road cycling she also decided to give track a go. It was daunting at first with the idea of no brakes, but her confidence grew slowly and now she loves it too. She started off track racing in October after getting her accreditation at Newport track league and London track league and went from being scared of riding in the bunch to winning some of the races and the combativity jersey. She also did her first omnium towards the end of 2019 and won the points race with an attack and came 3rd overall. Libby is also excited to compete at track nationals in a few weeks.

“I went from being dropped in the warm-up at training to winning my first road race a month later. I can’t wait to start the 2020 road season and gain experience and give it my best shot”

Off the bike, Libby also plays netball for a team in Oxford and before she began cycling she used to be a swimmer where she competed at county championships with her squad.
